A PARENT'S GUIDE TO THE MARINE CORPS

Because Recruit Training is always emphasized, many people think Marines live like that every day. Make no mistake: Recruit Training is grueling. However, once a Recruit graduates, he or she will begin life as a Marine.

The Marine Corps lifestyle is about as far from a 9-to-5 job as one could imagine, with travel, adventure, and opportunities for advancement and leadership not often found in the private sector.

In many duty assignments, Marines have regular work hours and regular time off, starting with 30 days of paid vacation per year. Marines also receive a host of other benefits, including free on-base housing, full medical benefits, free- or low-cost educational opportunities, and more, from a grateful nation.
