A PARENT'S GUIDE TO THE MARINE CORPS

The Marine Corps' motto - Semper Fidelis - in Latin, means "Always Faithful." It is more than just a motto for Marines; it is a way of life. It is a commitment to our country and the Corps. This is why there are no ex-Marines, only former Marines.

The Marine way of approaching tasks has been adapted by several companies. The legion of former Marines in prominent business positions is significant.

Steven S. Reinemund, for example, is a former Marine and Chief Executive Officer of PepsiCo. He served five years in the United States Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Captain.

David Dinkins served in the United States Marine Corps from 1945 through 1946. In 1989, he became the first African American mayor of the City of New York. Today he is a professor in the practice of public affairs at the Columbia University School of International and Public Affairs.

Countless Marines have gone on to extremely successful civilian careers. Many unabashedly credit their time in the Corps for instilling the drive and leadership that led to everything that followed. This is a hallmark of service in the Marine Corps, and something any young man or woman would be privileged to be part of.
