Becoming a United States Marine is not an easy feat, nor is it an easy decision. This choice is likely one of the first adult decisions your son or daughter will make and you can be proud they are considering this path.
By now you've probably had a discussion about what's motivating them to make this decision. For your convenience, we've provided several more conversation starters. This list is not exhaustive and it is only intended to spark a dialogue.
- Ask about your son or daughter's goals for the future.
- Ask if they are willing to make the commitment. (For example in the Marines, it's a minimum of four years.)
- Ask why the Marines, as opposed to another branch of military service.
- Ask whether they think they're ready for Recruit Training. If not, how do they plan to prepare themselves?

- Yes. Each Recruit will enroll in the Direct Deposit program after their arrival at Recruit Training. After completion of Recruit Training, Marines can change their Direct Deposit to any bank or financial institution of their choice.
